My Wrangler's check engine light just came on, need a trustworthy garage in Abu Dhabi
#1
I was driving home from work yesterday and everything was completely normal, then out of nowhere this orange check engine light pops up on my dash and my heart just sank because I know from experience that these things are never cheap or simple to fix. My Wrangler has been running beautifully for the past couple of years with just routine servicing, so this is the first real issue I've had and I'm already dreading what the diagnosis is going to be. I did the classic thing of turning the car off and back on again hoping it would just disappear but nope, it's still there staring at me every time I drive. I'm not really mechanically inclined so I have no idea if it's something minor like an oxygen sensor or something major like the engine, which is apparently a weak point on some of these models. I know the dealership is an option but honestly I've heard their diagnostic fees alone are enough to make you cry, and I'd rather find a specialist who actually knows these cars and won't charge me a fortune just to plug in a diagnostic computer and tell me what's wrong. I've been asking around and trying to find a place that offers trusted Jeep service in Abu Dhabi because I want to make sure the people working on my car have the right experience and equipment to handle the complex electronics these cars have . If anyone has had a good experience with a specialist, especially if you've had engine-related work done, I'd really appreciate a recommendation because I'm stressed and I just want to get this sorted without getting ripped off.

A steady orange light is rarely an emergency. Loose or worn gas cap, O2 sensor, or a small evap leak cause most of these on Wranglers. Get the code read first, since plenty of parts shops will scan it free, then you'll know what you're actually dealing with before any garage quotes you.

Mine came on in my 2018 JL last spring and it was a failing ignition coil on one cylinder. Noticed a slight shake at idle that I'd ignored. The independent shop swapped the coil and plug for a small fraction of what the dealer wanted to even look at it.

Careful with any garage that wants to start with a big diagnostic fee and then tells you nothing specific. A code reader costs very little and the code alone narrows things down a lot. Has anyone here actually used the Abu Dhabi shop he linked, or is it just something that popped up in a search?

If the light is flashing rather than steady, stop driving, because that means an active misfire that can damage the catalytic converter. Steady is far less urgent. On the 3.6 Pentastar, also ask about the oil cooler housing and exhaust manifold bolts, since those are the known weak spots people mention most.

Which engine and model year is yours, and is the car running any differently, like rough idle, less power, or worse mileage? That tells you a lot about whether it's something trivial or not. Also, when did you last fill up, in case it's just the gas cap or a bad tank of fuel?
