I normally don't pay much attention to online appearance tests, but this time I wanted to see how modern AI would approach something that people usually judge subjectively https://overchat.ai/image/rate-my-face. Instead of asking friends for their opinion about a profile picture, I uploaded one of my own photos and let the system analyze it. The interesting part for me was the amount of detail in the report. It looked beyond the general impression and considered facial symmetry, proportions, bone structure, jawline and several other visible characteristics. I wasn't really interested in getting a flattering answer, so I appreciated the fact that the result was presented as an analysis rather than a compliment. After checking the first photo, I decided to experiment with a second one that had softer lighting and a slightly different facial expression. I ran it through this online face analyzer and compared the two results. There was enough variation to show me that the conditions of the photo can influence the assessment. That was probably the most useful discovery because I often assumed that every selfie represented me in roughly the same way. I also found the feature-by-feature breakdown easier to understand than a simple attractiveness percentage. In the end, I spent much longer comparing photographs than I expected. It was mostly curiosity, but the experiment was entertaining and gave me a better understanding of why some pictures look noticeably better than others.
